The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining has advanced its investment in agricultural development with another major milestone under the Southern Plains Agricultural Development (SPAD) Project, as 22 investors received agricultural leases that will boost food production, attract private investment and create jobs.

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, has assured farmers in southwest St Elizabeth that the Government will move swiftly to assist them following a major fire which affected agricultural lands in the Little Park/Gillard, Pedro Plains area on Friday.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining is advising cattle farmers, butchers and other stakeholders that, effective July 30 to September 30, 2026, untagged cattle destined exclusively for slaughter may be transported under a temporary administrative arrangement, provided the prescribed documentation accompanies each animal.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, through the Jamaica Dairy Development Board (JDDB), has launched the Heifer Redistribution Programme, under which 400 pregnant heifers will be distributed to dairy farmers across the island to help rebuild the national herd, increase milk production and strengthen the long-term resilience of the dairy industry following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

The programme was launched at Serge Island Dairies in Danvers Pen, St. Thomas, on Wednesday (July 15).
