$100-Million Recovery Programme for Banana and Plantain Farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining will implement a $100-million large-scale recovery programme for banana and plantain farmers, after Hurricane Melissa wiped out the country’s commercial crop during its passage on October 28.

The programme, which will be implemented by The Banana Board and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), is expected to assist approximately 5,000 banana and plantain farmers and rehabilitate more than 2,500 hectares of damaged farms.

Bath Botanical Gardens to Be Rehabilitated at a Cost of $29.5 Million

Bath Botanical Gardens in St. Thomas will be rehabilitated over a five-month period at a cost of $29.5 million.

The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), along with the Ministries of Tourism, and Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, signed a contract with SM Quality Construction for the undertaking on Thursday (February 5), at JSIF’s Richmond Avenue offices in Kingston.

Agriculture Minister Commits $30 Million to CASE to Revive EGG Industry

To help drive the resuscitation of the egg industry following Hurricane Melissa, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, has committed $30 million to support egg farming at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) in Portland.

JCF Agricultural Protection Branch Commended for Surge in Praedial Larceny Convictions

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, has commended the work of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Agricultural Protection Branch (APB), which led to a 2,000 per cent increase in praedial larceny convictions in 2025.

The APB was launched in June 2025, and since its establishment, there has been a significant increase in arrests, court cases, and convictions related to praedial larceny and other agriculture‑related crimes.
