Gov’t Advancing Plans for Development of Aquaculture Agro-Park and Regional Centre of Excellence

The Government is advancing plans to establish a 300‑acre aquaculture agro‑park at Amity Hall, St. Catherine, alongside the development of a Caribbean Centre of Excellence in Mitchell Town, Clarendon.

These developments form part of the strategic measures being pursued to address challenges constraining the local tilapia industry and strengthen Jamaica’s aquaculture sector.

Agriculture Ministry Announces $20M Post-Hurricane Recovery Package to Revitalise Aquaculture Sector

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, through the National Fisheries Authority (NFA), has provided a recovery package valued more than $20 million to revitalise Jamaica’s aquaculture sector following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.

Boost for Agricultural Education In High Schools

Manchester High and Holmwood Technical High Schools are set to improve agricultural education, with the donation of vertical hydroponic towers and goat houses by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining.

Speaking at a handover ceremony, held at Manchester High School on January 22, Minister of State in the Ministry, Hon. Franklyn Witter, said both initiatives “reflect how we are transforming agriculture by combining education, technology and production”.
