National Youth In Agriculture Winners To Launch ‘Agriconnect’ App By 2026

‘AgriConnect’, a new mobile application (app) that gives farmers direct access to customers, is expected to come on stream by 2026.

The app was developed by a four-member team—Khrisean Stewart, Davado Evans, Ackeem Messam, and Livingston Mitchell—who were crowned the 2025 National Youth in Agriculture winners in the mobile app category at the 71st Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show, held in May Pen, Clarendon, in August.

They are students of the Amber HEART Academy in Stony Hill, St Andrew, where they are pursuing studies in Mobile App Development.

Coconut Farmers Urged to Report Bud Rot

The Coconut industry Board (CIB) is urging coconut farmers to report incidents of bud rot on their farms.

Caused by the Phytophthora palmivora pathogen, bud rot is a fungal disease, that attacks the terminal bud of a coconut palm, leading to the rotting of surrounding tissues and ultimately the death of the tree.

Plant Pathologist with the CIB, Dr. Wayne Myrie, said the disease is spread by water and the spores can be spread by wind.

Government Takes Steps to Unlock Potential of Goat Farming and Aquaculture

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, says the Government is taking strategic steps to unlock the potential of both goat farming and aquaculture, two subsectors with strong local and international demand.
