Agricultural Postgraduate Scholarship Programme

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining is proud to launch its Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, a strategic initiative to invest in advanced academic training that drives agricultural transformation and national development. This scholarship supports MSc and PhD studies in high-impact disciplines critical to the modernization of Jamaica’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining sector which includes: Genetics, Soil Science, Precision Agriculture, Biometrics, and Crop Science. The aim is to build a cadre of highly trained professionals equipped to lead scientific innovation, policy development, and technological adoption across the sector.

Scholarships are available for postgraduate studies (MSc or Doctoral level) in the following priority areas:

These programmes are vital to achieving food security, enhancing productivity, protecting natural resources, and increasing Jamaica’s global competitiveness in agriculture.

Where You Can Study

Scholarships are tenable at approved Local and International Universities through face-to-face study modes.

Programme Duration

  • Master level (*up to 2 years renewable annually)
  • PhD Level (*up to 3 years renewable annually)

Eligibility Criteria

Under the Scholarship Programme, each applicant must:

  1. Be a Jamaican citizen or permanent resident
  2. Hold a degree in a relevant agricultural or natural sciences discipline (minimum GPA of 3.0)
  3. Have been admitted to a recognized institution offering postgraduate programmes in the approved fields
  4. At the time of application: MSc./MPhil. Level candidates should be no older than 35 years and PhD level candidates no older than 45 years.
  5. Submit a research proposal aligned with national priorities
  6. Demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to contributing to the agricultural sector upon completion
  7. Study at approved local or International Universities (Hybrid/Face to Face)

  2. Plant Genetics & Breeding
  3. Molecular Biology
  4. Biostatistics

*Award of the scholarship is subject to the availability of funds and fulfilment of all scholarship requirements

Obligation

" Successful candidates will be required to enter into a Bonding Agreement with the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) prior to the uptake of the Scholarship Award, giving an undertaking to work in the Public Service (for government employees) or serve the country (for private citizens) for a specified period upon completion of studies. "
