Jamaica is poised to host the Caribbean’s Aquaculture Centre with the establishment of a new model 200-acre aquaculture park in Mitchell Town, Clarendon.

The announcement was made by Fisheries Minister, Hon. Floyd Green, during his 2025/26 Sectoral presentation in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (May 27).

“We are going to be training the rest of the region, right here in Jamaica, in aquaculture,” he outlined.

Minister Green also explained that existing facilities will be strengthened to drive aquaculture development.

“At Toll Gate, we have a 330-acre facility that we are going to rehabilitate and put into production and research activities,” he declared.

Meanwhile, the portfolio minister also highlighted that the Ministry will be moving to bring support services closer to fisherfolk who currently do not have access.

“The NFA (National Fisheries Authority) will move to establish offices in parishes where we do not have any,” Green shared.

He said NFA offices will be coming to St Ann and Trelawny. He added that the Ministry will be moving ahead to transform the Montego Bay, Black River, and Pagee NFA offices into regional offices.

Additionally, he said the Ministry is looking to establish fuel depots in Port Antonio and Falmouth.
