The Import/Export One Stop Shop
The Agricultural Support Services Project (ASSP) in the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Cabinet, Ports Authority of Jamaica and Jamaica Customs Department, has introduced an Import and Export One Stop shop. The objective is to streamline trade inspection and document processing, making the process simpler and hassle-free. The one stop shop will operate an internet based system through which traders can also apply for permits and certification, pay fees and submit supporting documents online.
For greater efficiency the facility is further concentrated into specific trade units:
Export One Stop shop
Import One Stop shop
Agencies Involved in the One Stop Shop
All of the six (6) agencies with responsibility for approvals of permits and inspection of produce are housed at the one stop shop locations. To achieve quicker processing time an information desk is also available to collate applications and collect fees, while goods are being checked and cleared by the relevant unit.
