Inter-American Development Bank (IADB)

Inter-American Development Bank, the oldest and largest regional multilateral development institution, was established in December 1959 to help accelerate economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. In its 41 years of operations, the Bank has become a major catalyst in mobilizing resources for the region. The Bank’s principal functions are:

  • to utilize its own capital-funds raised by it in financial markets and other available resources for financing the development of borrowing member countries;
  • to supplement private investment when private capital is not available on reasonable terms and conditions; and
  • to provide technical assistance for the preparation, financing, and implementation of development plans and projects.

Current lending policies include poverty reduction and social equity and modernization and integration, and the environment.

The IDB is currently funding the Agricultural Support Services Project. The objective of the Project is to enhance the competitiveness of the Borrower’s agricultural production in domestic and global markets, with the goal of making a substantial contribution to the goal of the increasing the incomes of agricultural producers.
