The Sugar Industry Authority (SIA)
The Sugar Industry Authority (SIA) has recently been restructured and its main functions are now regulatory, monitoring, arbitration, research and development the provision of and technical assistance, with greater emphasis being placed on research to enhance production and productivity. The organization also advises on industry developments, trends and prices.
The Sugar Industry Research Institute (SIRI) is its technical arm and has responsibility for sugar research, assessment of factories, extension services and training.

The Sugar Industry Housing Ltd. (SIHL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the SIA and its mandate is to provide for the housing needs of the workers in the industry.
Government has recently announced wide-ranging measures in an effort to restructure the sugar industry and, in order to effectively undertake these, has given the revitalized and strengthened SIA the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of the programme and to ensure that the targets set are achieved within the stated time frame.
