Notifiable Disease
A notifiable disease is any communicable disease that poses a threat to the health of the livestock industry and its viability in the export markets. If it is suspected than an animal is infected by any of the listed diseases, you are required by law to report your observations to the Veterinary Services Division. Informing the agricultural authority allows for the monitoring, control and eradication of the spread of the diseases, which in some cases are transferrable to humans (see Zoonotic Diseases). The list of notifiable diseases is periodically reviewed to ensure conformity to international reporting requirements and, equally important, to guarantee the nation's food security.
